One of the great advantages of launching from Cleveland is the proximity to Lake Erie's island chain. Kelleys Island is about 40 miles out — a comfortable day trip in good conditions. Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island is roughly the same distance. Both are worth the run.
Tip: Leave early (6–7 AM) to beat afternoon winds and secure a slip before the crowds arrive. The return trip in the evening with a following breeze is one of the best feelings in Great Lakes boating.
